LWG - Leather
The Leather Working Group consists of brands, manufacturers, suppliers, NGOs such as WWF and end users. The aim of this multi-stakeholder group is to develop and maintain a protocol to assess the environmental compliance and performance of leather manufacturers and to promote sustainable and appropriate environmental business practices within the leather industry.
LWG is a global sustainability standard for leather manufacturing that covers all elements and actors in the leather value chain. The organization focuses on ensuring high environmental standards in leather production and transparency within the leather supply chain. Leather manufacturing companies (tanneries) are audited on various aspects of their production, including
- Water and energy consumption
- waste management
- Employee health and safety
- air pollution
- Environmental protection and noise pollution
- Chemicals management
Dealers and suppliers are checked for their ability to trace their products.
To achieve its goals, the Leather Working Group has developed an audit protocol for sustainable and responsible leather production. Suppliers are awarded ratings in the gold, silver and bronze categories.
The LWG leather we use comes from one of the highest-rated suppliers.
