Orthopedics
There is a standard for the shoe, but there is no standard for the foot
Together with our orthopedic partners, we can provide you with customized insoles and orthopedic shoe fittings in accordance with DGUV regulation 112-191, which stipulates that orthopedic insoles may only be inserted into safety shoes in conjunction with a valid EU type examination certificate.
This ensures that your safety shoes continue to comply with EN ISO 20345 after the orthopedic modification and offer the wearer the same protection as before. For Austria, instead of the DGUV rule 112-191, the ÖNorm Z 1259 applies, which differs from the German standard in two points:
- The shoes must meet the highest slip-resistance category SRC according to EN ISO 20345
- No ¾ insoles may be used.
The orthopedic specialist can select which insole is the most suitable for you, depending on the orthopedic measure, and purchase it from one of our orthopedic partners or directly from Baak.

Shoe fittings
BAAK offers you various models from the BAAK Industrial Go&Relax series for the most frequently required fittings. Most models are available in two widths, whereby the other variant has an 8 mm wider toe cap.
Here you will find an overview of the four most common orthopedic changes:
By raising the entire running surface, larger differences in leg length (maximum 3 cm) can be compensated. This finishing also allows the installation of a roll-off aid in the forefoot area.
They enable the wearer to step more easily. We distinguish between the following rolling aids:
- The metatarsal roll is used for stiffened joints. Example: Ankle joint and metatarsophalangeal joint of the big toe.
- The bunion roll is used for ankle and forefoot problems. This roller also makes it possible to walk more easily. In addition, depending on the case, a heel adjustment must still be made, which guarantees an even shoe height.
Every orthopedic specialist is authorized to make changes to the ready-made safety shoe. The prerequisite is that the specifications of the type examination are adhered to. The orthopedic specialty store is responsible for ensuring that the converted safety shoe is modified in accordance with our manufacturing instructions on baak.de.

Shoe increases are possible up to 30 mm in the heel area and up to 10 mm in the ball area. The manufacturing instructions according to which the modification of the safety shoe must be carried out can be found here:
Insoles
Wearing private, non-certified insoles is not permitted. This means that the safety shoe loses its certification and thus, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Act, its insurance protection.
Here you will find an overview of all insoles:
ESD Softstep+
The BAAK ESD Softstep+ insole is already integrated into the shoe as standard in many BAAK models. Of course, it is also available as an accessory for men’s and women’s shoes in two widths. The BAAK ESD Softstep+ insole adapts to the foot with its light joint support and enables more stable walking thanks to the integrated ball heel. Soft PU foam provides pleasant cushioning and optimum breathability for dry feet. This insole is certified according to DGUV 112-191 and the Austrian ÖNorm Z 1259 and can therefore be orthopedically adjusted if the BAAK manufacturing instructions are observed. Your orthopedic specialist can make slight orthopedic adjustments, such as heel elevation and inner and outer rim elevations, directly on the insole.
The insole is completely conductive, even after finishing, and therefore the optimal solution for ESD shoes.
ESD Orthostep+ medic
With an individually manufactured BAAK Orthostep+ medic insole, you can reduce painful changes in the foot structure (e.g. heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, flat splayfoot) or get problems caused by incorrect loading under control.
Customized insoles like our Orthostep+ medic bring back your quality of life and allow you to enjoy your everyday life pain-free. Our Orthostep+ medic can be purchased through your orthopedic specialty store or at our location.
